Welcom to the World of Wide Screen

Well, we have since moved into the world of wide screen gaming.
All the new levels have been expanded on to fit this new format.
There is so much more realestate on the game screen now too.
Very happy with the result.

The Saddest Day of My Miserable Little Life (So Far)

It was a week ago today, we where walking
through the park on our way to school.
There is a group of swamp hens here
at the lake that run up to us every morning
looking for something to eat.
My kids love the baby ones as they are so
cute and ran funny with their larger than life
feet.

Anyways, on that day, we took little notice
of a Crow in distance that was loitering
around in the ground, that is until we got a
little closer. Kara said, hey dad, that Crow
is fighting a Toad. Still we didn't real pay
any attention as the baby swamp hens
continued to follow in toe. Anyways, kids
being kids run up to see that the Crow was
doing, and low and behold, it was trying to
kill a cute little baby Rainbow Lorikeet.
The poor little thing could hardly walk it was
so young. We chased off the bean old
crow and save the dear little bird.
Being so young, it had no fear of humans
and seemed welcome to see us over the crow.
We looked around for it's parents.
We've never seen Rainbow Lorikeet around
this aera before either. Should we leave it here
and see if it's parents returned. I looked up at
the near by trees to see if there was a nest in
any off them. The trees near by where pretty
small and easy to examine. Nothing.
The kids wanted to take it to school, but we
ended up deciding that I would bring it back
home and try to feed it and the kids would
continue on to school by themselves.

Once we got home (the bird an I that is), I put
out some budgie seed and see if I could get it
to eat something. It didn't touch it.
So I jumped on the good old Internet and did
some research. Hmm, they eat fruit. I cut up
a bit of an apple and tried giving him that. He
licked at it. Licked some more. And again.
But he wouldn't eat any. He was so young,
that he didn't know how to chew yet. Anyways,
I mashed it up for him and he slowly licked it
all up.

Anyways, I'll finish this later, it's a story I want
to share.

But today I had to go to the doctors. So I
placed Alex in the Avery with a fresh bowl of
mashed up Fruit and left from my appointment.
The Docs like only a 2 min walk, but the wind
start to pick up and it started to rain. Had to
wait a hour for a 2min chat about a blood test
I had the week before. He tells me there is
nothing wrong with my blood and charges me
another $55. I get home and start to get ready
for work. Make some lunch, watch the news.
There's a big deal about our PM taking the
micky out of big W. Bush. Hmm, still feel a
little hungry. Decide to make a second
toasted sandwich. I know that by the time its
really, I will not feel hungry, be decide to make
it any ways. It's then that remember that I
better feed Alex too. I grab the buckets of
scrap to put in the compose and head out side.
Hmm, it's a bit cold and still a little windy.
I dump the scraps and then check on the Avery.
Shit, where's little Alex? He normally sits on
the perch closest to the door. Stressed a little,
search the rest of the cage. I couldn't see him
any where. Is he inside the budgies house?
I open up the Avery to have a look, then on the
far side in the corner, poor little Alex is half
lying/half sitting in the grass not moving. His
heads bent back in a uneasy way. Shit, what's
wrong with him is all I can think.I climb through
to get to him and reach down to pick him up.
Oh crap, the poor little guys is cold to touch.
Shit, Shit is all I can think. I hold him close to
warm him up, and pat his little head to comfort
him. He blinks. Yes, he's still alive I think. But
his body's is all out of place. He's not fluff any
more. I could feel that there wasn't much life
left in him. He was going to die. I quickly run
inside. I could now feel him breathing and his
little heart beating. Shit, it wasn't breathing, it
was racing, way to fast. I rang up work at told
them I wasn't coming in. Was about to look up
the vets number when Alex jumps to life, well
that's what I thought. I was so happy and
relieved.  My relief didn't last long, it was his
last breath of air, then every mussel in his poor
little body just went taunt.
The little guy looks up at me, with those sweet
little eyes and then he goes limp. His little
body just stopped working. His beak falls open
and a little blood dripped out on to my hand.
With his eyes still opened, looking at me, I find
a area on table and laid him down to rest.

Now I have to go pick up the kids from school
and tell them that I killed their (and my) best
little friend.

There will be no more mornings, where I wake
and have to search for this little guy some where
in the house. (Cleaning up bird poos as I go).
And when you find him, he runs
up to you, climbs up your arm and sits on
your shoulder, waiting to be feed.

Or spending ages watching him eat mashed
banana and falling a sleep with his little tongue
still shooting in and out.

I will try to post some of the video we took
of him clowning around soon too.

Anyways. Rest In Peace little fell'a.

We will all miss you around here.

You brought us so much joy with your presents
here and I'm so very, very sorry that I let you
down this way.

World of Goo is way Too MUCH F.U.N!!

Should write something about it, but I'm going to play it instead.
The only thing that piss's me off it that it's not out on the wii here in Oz yet.
Nintendo your are really starting to piss me off with your shit staggered game release ethics.
I want Strong Bad 3 now too!!!  Think I'll get the PC version this time anyways, it's almost half the price of the wii's version.

Hot Jam!!

Another day, another dollar, well, it could of been had I gone to work today.  But I decided to throw a sickly, as work has been driving me nuts (get it, I work in a Nut Factory!!) and instead spend time working on the game :)

We have made many changes over the last few weeks, and broken many game play aspects in the process.  So it's now fix it time.  We decided to drop all the old school, hard core game elements like falling, dying and restarting the level from scratch.  It was something I wanted to keep, cos I'm old school, but the game is just some much more fun now (and a bit to easy).

We have about 20 playable levels going now, looking at having another 20 at least for the final game.  We are thinking about adding some boss level but not 100% sure we will put them in yet. Got a few ideas that I haven't seen in other games that I would like to try out.

The biggest achievement we made last week, that I'm really proud of, is one hand game control.  I hadn't noticed at the time, but I was eating lunch with one hand and playing the game with the other.  How cool is that!!  As my old mate Rob from Firemint once said, "there is a new type of gamer emerging, the Causal Hardcore Gamer, the guys that used to player hardcore games, but doesn't have the time to invest into today's epic games."  I hope this game will appeal to them, something quick, easy and fun to play.

The Fine Art of Eating Donuts

Progress on the Donut game has been amazing over the last few weeks. Mainly due to the fact that I have stopped trying to code it myself and now just overseeing the project. Huge big thanks to Andrew Vanbeck for taking the project on.

We now also now have a kick ass level editor fully integrated with in the game that lets you make new levels and test them with in minuets. It's all pretty amazing stuff.

Donuts now bounce around the screen (in to flavours, Strawberry, plus Chocolate), Jam shooters shoot jam across the screen that explodes on impact, Antonio picks up and carries his trusty Dough Bag, the only thing that can stop these crazed out donuts. The cream blaster is just amazing to watch in action.
Tune in back next week and we'll try to upload a small video of the game in actions. Also hopefully we'll have a graphical upgrade to the project too. (Come on Ferd ;)

A Thundery Storm Passe's Us Bye.

Welcome to the Episode #1 of our Games We Never Finished Series.

It was back in 2002 or something, that I had a dream, a dream that was going to change the face of gaming for ever. That Game was 'The Amazing Adventures of Captain Thunder Storm & Smelly".

Basically it was a kick ass 3rd person shoot with sexy ladies and a side kick called Smelly based on some cool art work that Feridan Kreozot put together years earlier. The Captain would defended a group of Hot Women that where being attacked from a evil race of aliens. It was coolest thing D&K had ever done, manly because someone else programmed it (huge thanks to Luke from True Axis). We just built models for the game and came up with the amazing story line.

It was going to feature full animated cut scenes to convey our epic story arc. We even looked into hiring some voice talent to do voice work on the project, but we found out that was going to cost money and I ended up doing them my self. We pretty much story boarded the entire first cut-scene and started putting together a Pre-visualisation using the game engine (which is in the demo if your interested in checking it out, thanks to Billy for the music there). Amazing stuff!

Most of the game models where made by David Coen, who I think went off to work for IR Gururs in Melbourne (only because they offered to pay him money!). Anyways, his work rocked and we would even have gotten as far as it did with out him. So a big thanks to David for all his work.

We did the environments here and we where going for a cartoony sort of look. The think we sort of pulled it off. There a few collision data problems here and there. And a few better texture would have help.

The demo is around 8meg and can be downloaded from this link:-

Would love to get some feedback on what people think of it, or if you believe it worth our effort to finish it off some day? Or many you'd be even interested in helping us finish it off??

The Dilemma of the Donuts

This week the team has take off in a different direction and started working on something yummy, fating and very close to my heart. DONUTS!!! Way back in 1984, I saw a small ad in a Australian PC magazine for a small game called Donut Dilemma for the TRS-80. I had to have this game, it looked amazing (for it's time), and it just happened to be made by a small company up in Brisbane called FUN DIVISION. For more info on this great game, check out this link:-
http://www.nickm.launch.net.au/ProjectArchive/donut.html

Anyways, the team have decided to remake and update this game for a whole new generation of gamer and donut eaters that missed it back in the 80's. This week as been spent learning things like how to program computers, how to develop art assets and the in's and outs of eating lots of yummy donuts without throwing up. I can safely say that we have master none of them.

(New vs Old)
Can you guess which is which??

The Best Things are Yet to Come!

Well, lets hope so, as for up to now, it's all been pretty shit!!!

Work on our new project, code named 'uBot Spot' has been put on hold as the on set of depression slowly starts to set in on the development team. Taking on to much, to soon has shattered moral with in the team.

It's my goal to give the public a little taste of what they have been working on and hopefully get them motivated to finish off the title for all us hard core casual gamers.

It basically takes all the best features of Street Fighter II, Mr Potato Head and Wheres Wally into one, all in fantastically package for all ages to enjoy.

Check back for future post for a link to an upcomming demo.
